The hotel is 200 metres from the British Museum, and the shopping and restaurants of Covent Garden are within half a mile, as are Shaftesbury Avenue's West End theatres. St Paul's Cathedral is two miles from the hotel. Russell Square, Holborn and Tottenham Court Road Underground stations are all within 200 metres of the hotel. Hotel Features. The four storey Portland hotel is set in an 18th century former townhouse, with its own garden.The hotel's contemporary Clarendon Bar offers drinks, garden access in warm weather, and newspapers and magazines. Breakfast is served in the Garden Restaurant (surcharge), and dinner can be booked in advance for groups. Room service is available 24 hours.The Portland has meeting rooms and business services.Hotel guests benefit from a discount at a nearby fitness centre. Guestrooms. The hotel's 51 pastel coloured guestrooms have a mixture of contemporary and period decoration. Georgian period details include fireplaces, high ceilings, sash windows and elaborate plasterwork in some rooms. Driving Directions to Holiday Hotel:From Heathrow Airport (LHR): Distance to The Portland is 16 miles, approximately 45 minutes' drive. Getting there. The Heathrow Express train is the quickest way into London. It departs from the airport every 15 minutes, and takes 15 minutes to reach Paddington Station in central London. The journey is non stop and costs 14.50 GBP. Paddington is on the Hammersmith and City, District and Circle, and Bakerloo lines of London's Underground (Tube). Additionally, the airport is on the Piccadilly line of the Underground, which runs directly to Russell Square underground station (200 metres from The Portland hotel). The journey to central London takes approximately one hour, and trains depart every 10 minutes. A one day travel pass costs 6.30 GBP, including travel to Heathrow (in zone 6). Black taxis cost approximately 50 GBP to central London. Coaches operate to London Victoria and the rest of the UK, and the airport is also served by local buses. Prices are all subject to change.
